Electric longboards are becoming increasingly popular for getting around, but carrying them around once you reach your destination is a real pain. If only there was a board that turned into its own case.
Caseboards is an electrically powered skateboard that folds into a briefcase, making it easy to carry around. The board uses a powerful 500-watt brushless electric motor powered by a lithium-ion battery that gives the skater a range of up to 18 miles depending on load, surface and grade. The board also uses regenerative braking that will charge the battery when slowing down or going down steep hills, potentially extending the ride. Riders control the board with a rechargeable, hand-held control unit giving them trigger access to the throttle as well as a light, horn and performance indicators. The board also has a companion smart device application that enables mapping of the ride, checkpoints and social sharing.
Caseboards is a tough system that can put up with most normal riding conditions, is water resistant but not waterproof and the manufacturer backs up the board with a twelve-month limited warranty. Caseboards is seeking funds through Kickstarter with a targeted release date in late 2014; you can grab your own by supporting them for 999 bucks.
