Not everyone can afford a full-time lifeguard for their backyard or even neighborhood pool making close monitoring of persons in the water more important than ever. iSwimband is a water activity companion that could save a life, alerting parents and preventing accidental drowning.
iSwimband is a personal water safety system that is designed to prevent accidental drowning for toddlers, children or anyone regardless of swimming ability. The device can be worn as a headband or attached to the wrist of a toddler or someone who is not supposed to be in the water. Sensors on the iSwimband can monitor how long the device is underwater or if the device touches water at all. If the submerged time exceeds a safety limit, it uses Bluetooth with a range of up to 100 feet to alert a smartphone that there may be a problem. The app is used to set-up the iSwimband taking just a few minutes and can monitor up to eight swimmers.
iSwimband is not meant to replace close supervision around pools, lakes or even the bathtub. The system hopes to reduce preventable water accidents giving parents and caregivers a wireless lifeline around water. iSwimband will be released in the spring of 2014 along with the application and the company is currently taking pre-orders through their website for just 125 bucks.
