Three-dimensional printers are great for printing objects but if you want to duplicate an object, you need a way to scan it. The Photon 3D Scanner is a light, portable and affordable solution to personal three-dimensional scanning applications.
The Photon 3D Scanner is designed to be a scanner for anyone and can scan objects up to seven and a half inches in diameter and almost ten inches in height. Users simply place the object they want to scan on the platform and start the scan with one click. The Photon rotates the object with dual stepper motors on the bed and uses two lasers with a high definition camera accurately capturing the form in about three minutes. Users can watch the point cloud capture in real-time and when the scan is complete, the software will save the file in stereo lithography, object or polygon CAD file formats. The file can then be sent directly to your personal 3D printer or to an online printing service.
The Photon 3D Scanner is desktop and travel friendly; when you are not using the device it folds up to the space of a large book for storage or transport. The Photon 3D scanner will be available later this summer, if you want one, check out their Indiegogo page and grab one for 450 bucks.
