Recent research indicating sitting can severely affect your health might not have gotten people up out of their chair, but it did motivate SmartMove to take steps to get us moving and living better.
SmartMove is a shoe insert that contains a highly accurate motion-tracker that uses multi-sensors to monitor daily activity. The insole is powered by a typical coin cell that will last for about three months and uses Bluetooth to pair with a smart device application. With the app, SmartMove users can see in real-time their duration sitting as well as the amount of time engaged in over 800 different activities, calories burned, number of steps and distance traveled. The app also has a unique, “coach” feature that identifies strengths, sets realistic goals, offers tips and feedback and will let you know when you are sitting too long and it is time to get moving.
The data collected by the SmartMove app can be used to track progress over time giving a visual display of lifestyle changes and the health benefits of sitting less. SmartMove will be taking pre-orders soon through their website and anticipates a 149-dollar price tag with a product release in mid-2014.
