The Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter Development Kit from BitcrazeBitcraze is releasing the Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter Kit in small batches, a few hundred at a time, and its, “coolness” factor is getting it a lot of attention. The assembled kit sets my imagination running with ideas for buzzing friends and coworkers. However, before you grab one of these thinking you will have the coolest toy flying around the office, there are few things you need to know.

Bitcraze is selling this as a development platform, not a toy, meaning you will need some experience in a development environment, including an understanding of schematics, source code, firmware applications and electronic assembly skills, like soldering. This is not a kit for beginners. It’s fragile, small size would not take too many hard hits before you were out 170 bucks thinking it was a toy.

The kit does show the fun side of engineering and would be ideal for classes, students and enthusiasts looking for a different kind of development kit. Unless this sounds like you, go find a better quadcopter toy alternative on the web.
