The 3D printing market offers consumers a growing number of choices for home and office fabrication, and, like any growing market, there is a prosumer line for designers that want more. MakerBot has been meeting that demand since 2009.
The MakerBot Replicator 2 and 2X prosumer line of additive printing machines allows designers to take their models to the next level. The Replicator 2 is a single extrusion printer that uses PLA filament to create models in one color. It uses an acrylic build plate and offers designers a 410 cubic-inch high-speed printing area. The Replicator 2X offers a dual extrusion nozzle allowing designers to print in two colors at once in either PLA or ABS filament. It uses a heated aluminum build plate and a full-seal heat-trapping enclosure for stability in ABS cooling with a slightly smaller build volume of 355 cubic inches.
Both the MakerBot Replicator 2 and 2X have a very sturdy powder-coated steel frame for stability while printing and to look awesome on your workbench or desk. Both machines can print at a very fine high layer resolution of 100 microns and both will connect to your Windows, Mac or Linux machine through USB. If you are not a total pro at 3D modeling, MakerBot offers their Thingiverse website where you can grab many cool designs to print.
